Implementing Organization: Coalition for Hispanic Family Services
Organization’s Website: www.hispanicfamilyservicesny.org
Project Description:
Coalition for Hispanic Family Services Youth and Community Development is committed to addressing the community desire for stronger, richer, diverse support to help single, teen parents gain and develop effective parenting skills. Our “Growing Supports” team members will gather with program participants for a variety of weekly and monthly workshops/engagements that will offer opportunities for personal and communal development. The programming will offer diverse resource support, practical life skills workshops, parenting education supports as well as regular individual coaching. Using individualized Growth Plans to support all stages of pregnancy as well as post-partum and early childhood parenting, the team will work alongside local community leaders (including local Aunties, Abuelas, and Uncles) to provide a wrap-around, holistic approach to parenting education growth. Program highlights will include: Arts Expression Workshops (dance, film, visual arts, production, music), financial literacy, academic/continuing education support, job search, Art Therapy sessions with Art Therapists, and doula support services. Programming will also feature “Baby Moons”-fun, local, cultural adventures for participants and culminate in “Parent Celebration Events” where the Growing Supports team, local community members, friends and family will throw group baby showers for participants to celebrate their personal growth and be showered with encouragement, positive affirmations and needed supplies and resources.
Project Funding Amount: $250,000
