Project Funding Amount: $280,000

Project Description:

Commonpoint Queens is excited to launch the Young Entrepreneurs Program at our new Youth Opportunity Hub located in Jamaica, Queens. The Young Entrepreneurs Program at Commonpoint Queens proposes to run a Culinary Arts program for youth which includes learning basic culinary skills, including a ServSafe and Food Handlers certificate. The program will also provide youth with work readiness training, and an opportunity to come up with a business idea focused on culinary arts, using an entrepreneurial mindset. The youth will have an end-of-program celebration and present their cooking skills and final projects to stakeholders, family members, and peers. The program aims to serve a total of 120 students over several cohorts. Students who successfully complete the program and maintain high participation will receive a $200 stipend. The program focus will allow students to gain confidence, develop social and emotional skills, and engage with the larger community through participation and employment at the community café and employer partners located in Queens.
